History of Liz and Chiara
IT ALL STARTED WHEN TWO TEACHERS…
met while taking a summer course at the Università per gli stranieri di Siena. Chiara and Liz, both Italian teachers- hailing from Florence and Boston respectively, shared their desire to bridge the gap between Italian language and Italian culture that they saw emerging in their classrooms. Chiara and Liz both believed strongly in the transformative power of experiential learning and the importance of cultural competence. They began collaborating with two public high schools, one Italian where students were learning English and one American where students were learning Italian, and created a bilateral exchange program where students would have the opportunity to truly live the language they were studying. Eight years later Chiara and Liz are still working together to bridge the gaps that they believe exist in World Language programs by creating partnerships between schools with similar schools and thereby spaces for authentic experiential learning.
